Gaming Performance:
Summary:
In our low detail tests, the ECS board out performs the Foxxconn board in both Doom 3 and Far Cry when using single card mode. Inevitably, the high detail tests followed a similar pattern to the low detail tests.
Generally speaking, SLI mode is slightly more reliant on the motherboard and a good BIOS implentation. We saw a difference emerging in favour of the KN1 SLI Extreme in our Doom 3 test, but the Foxconn board appears ever so slightly faster in Far Cry using SLI mode. Doom 3 makes use of the Alternate Frame Rendering mode, whilst Far Cry utilises a Split Frame Rendering mode.
Despite the ECS KN1 SLI Extreme only using a PCI-Express x8 slot in single card mode, the board performs admirably well compared to the full-bandwidth PCI-Express x16 slot used on the other boards when running in single card mode. The ECS KN1 SLI Extreme is only a couple of tenths of a frame behind the performance of the Foxconn board in single card mode at high detail.
